Dalilea Farm House

Welcome

Dalilea is a unique place. It lies within a working farm on the banks of Loch Shiel in the West Highlands of Scotland.

We are delighted to be welcoming visitors back to Dalilea Farm. We now have a brand new luxurious wooden lodge for self-catering holidays. The farmhouse was run as a very popular guesthouse for many years by various members of the Macaulay family, so we are pleased to be welcoming visitors here again, old and new.

The picturesque Dalilea House (the farmhouse) has a historical background. The original part of the house, which may date back to the 15th century, was allegedly where the Bard of the Gaelic Enlightenment Alastair MacDonald (known as Alasdair MacMhaighstir Alasdair) was born, and where he planted an oak tree which is still standing today. It has also been said that this is where Bonnie Prince Charlie stopped on his way up Loch Shiel before raising his Standard at the head of Loch Shiel in Glenfinnan in 1745.

Dalilea is a working farm with mainly cattle and sheep (although we have recently started dabbling in pigs and bees too!) and at certain times of the year there may an opportunity to buy some of our tasty mutton, lamb or pork.

Dalilea has been farmed by the Macaulay family since the early 1950s when John’s Grandparents moved to Dalilea. John and his brother and sisters were brought up in the farmhouse where we are now raising the 4th generation of Macaulays to have lived at Dalilea, with our 3 wee children.

We hope our visitors will love Dalilea as much as we do.
